HISTORY
The city’s name is derived from the Mansur shrub (Cororiana Nepalensis), which is mostly found in the foothills of the Himalayas. The city was founded by accident in 1827 when a British officer named Captain Young accidentally stumbled onto the region. The officer was so struck by its beauty, that he made arrangements for a British cantonment to be established here.
During that time, Mussoorie was a remote location that could only be reached by long, curvy climbs up into the mountains. |
